For young people & families

Things can change. We’ll help make it happen.

If things aren’t going right at home, at school or with friends, you don’t have to wait until it gets worse. We work with young people directly to change what happens next.

Is this you?

You might be feeling or noticing…

It doesn’t have to be one big thing. Often it’s lots of smaller things adding up.

  • Getting into trouble a lot
  • Angry or stressed all the time
  • Not wanting to go to school
  • Excluded or at risk of exclusion
  • Feeling low or anxious
  • Struggling with friendships
  • Being pressured into things
  • Hanging around with people who aren’t safe
  • Arguments at home
  • Something that happened is still affecting you
  • Needs that school doesn’t seem to understand
  • Feeling stuck and not sure what’s next

Questions

Things people often ask

Can I refer myself?

Yes. Young people can refer themselves using the Self / Parent-Carer referral form. We will talk to you about involving a parent or carer where that’s appropriate.

Are you counsellors?

Youth Services has in-house counsellors, and our support can include CBT-informed approaches where appropriate. We’ll discuss each young person’s needs and explain which support is suitable and available.

What happens after I send the form?

We review every referral and get in touch to talk it through. Together we’ll decide what the right support looks like and agree the next steps.

Will you talk to my child’s school?

Only with your agreement. Working alongside school often makes a big difference, especially where attendance, behaviour or exclusion is part of the picture.

What if someone needs help urgently?

Youth Services is not an emergency service.

  • Immediate danger: Call 999 or go to A&E.
  • Urgent mental health help, where there is no immediate danger: Call NHS 111 and select the mental health option.
  • Non-emergency police matters: Call 101.
