Safeguarding

Keeping young people safe is at the centre of everything we do

Many of the young people we work with face risks to their safety and wellbeing. Clear safeguarding practice runs through every referral, every intervention and every member of our team.

Youth Services is not an emergency service

  • Immediate danger: Call 999 or go to A&E.
  • Urgent mental health help, where there is no immediate danger: Call NHS 111 and select the mental health option.
  • Non-emergency police matters: Call 101.

If you are worried that a child is being harmed or is at risk of harm, contact your local authority children’s services.

Policy & procedures

We have a written safeguarding and child protection policy and clear procedures for recording, reporting and responding to concerns.

Designated safeguarding lead

A named designated safeguarding lead oversees safeguarding and makes sure concerns are acted on quickly and properly.

Safer recruitment

Everyone working with young people goes through safer recruitment, including enhanced DBS checks and references.

Working with partners

We work within existing safeguarding plans and alongside schools, children’s services and other agencies.

Information sharing

Where there is a safeguarding concern, we share information with the right agencies to keep young people safe, in line with statutory guidance.

Data protection

Personal information is handled securely and in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Confidentiality

What young people and families can expect

We respect the privacy of every young person we work with. What they share with us is kept confidential, except where we are worried that they or someone else is at risk of harm.

In that case, we will usually talk to the young person first about who we need to tell and why, unless doing so would put them or someone else at greater risk.
